Enhance A Photo By Making A Painting

Beginners Tutorial

This tutorial is  aimed at beginners and in this free course, I will show you how to enhance a photo by making it a painting.
So we start by grabbing a photo that we would like to use, in this example I have used a photo of James Bond ( Daniel Craig ).

This is a totally unedited photo ( well not by me anyway ).

Find a photo – Step 1

Duplicate Layer – Step 2

So we need to duplicate your original photo, we do this my making a layer over the top of the original photo. On your PC, Right Click on your original photo layer ( on the right hand side of the screen ) and click Duplicate Layer or goto the menu Layer -> Duplicate Layer.

Filter Gallery Menu – Step 3

So with your new duplicate layer selected, you now need to goto the Filter Gallery Menu as shown below. Filter -> Filter Gallery.

Paint Daubs Settings – Step 4

Now this is the effect we are going to use “Paint Daubs”. And try experimenting with different settings, but for this photo I am using the settings

Brush Size: 4
Sharpness: 5
Brush Type: Simple

and it gives slight and subtle  enhancements that really brings the photo out and gives it that “POP” that some people talk about.

And this is what we end up with, a nice photo with that pop. Really gives it more character in my opinion.
